We’re Hiring – Workers’ Compensation Claims Manager

We're Hiring poster

We are seeking an experienced, full-time Washington Workers’ Compensation Claims Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for providing strategic advice and counsel in the management of claims for employers enrolled in our Washington Workers’ Compensation programs.

If you enjoy this work, you know it can look very different depending on where you do it. At Vigilant, our goal is to create an environment where you can do meaningful, high-quality work while feeling supported, respected, and part of a team that truly has your back. If you’ve been considering a change but are looking for the right combination of stability, support, and meaningful work, this role is worth exploring.

About Vigilant

Vigilant is a membership organization deeply committed to providing thoughtful, practical service and living our core value of putting others before ourselves. We support our member companies in the areas of employment law, labor relations, human resources, safety, employee benefits, workers’ compensation, and leadership development throughout five western states.

We take that same approach internally. We care about creating a workplace where people feel steady, supported, and able to build something long-term. Many of our team members have been with us for years, and we take pride in being an organization people can rely on — both professionally and personally.

Vigilant has offices in Everett, Washington and Tigard, Oregon, though most of our team works remotely. This is a work-from-home position, and your home office must be located in Washington or Oregon.

The Team

You’ll be joining a team of experienced Claims Managers who genuinely enjoy both the work and each other. They collaborate, share ideas freely, and step in to support one another without hesitation. It’s a group that takes pride in doing right by their employers while also creating an environment that’s positive, kind, and easy to be part of.

Each Claims Manager builds strong, ongoing relationships with their assigned employers — getting to know their business, their people, and how best to support them over time.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Vigilant’s vision and values.
  • Actively manage workers’ compensation claims and take necessary action to move claims toward resolution while minimizing overall costs.

  • Evaluate claims details and communicate claim strategies and potential financial impact to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Review benefit payments to ensure appropriate billing and calculation procedures are applied.
  • Assist employers in developing return-to-work programs that comply with L&I requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of claims appeals through the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, including coordination with employers, Assistant Attorneys General, injured workers and/or their legal representation, and judges.
  • Interact with personnel from L&I, medical providers, vocational counselors, injured workers, member employers, outside attorneys, and internal Vigilant teams.
  • Participate in in-person meetings throughout the state of Washington as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience directly managing Washington workers’ compensation claims from initiation through resolution, including regular interaction with Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I).
  • Strong working knowledge of Washington state L&I policies, with the ability to apply it efficiently to claim management decisions.
  • Additional experience in occupational medicine and/or vocational rehabilitation is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey clear and concise information.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable technical resources for research and analysis.
  • Ability to build cooperative, trusting relationships with internal teams, member employers, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills, including the ability to assess complex issues and develop thoughtful, practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to proactively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, manage interruptions, and maintain accuracy and responsiveness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to meet or exceed service expectations.

Work Environment

  • Our work environment is cheerful, respectful, humble, and diligent.
  • We take our work seriously, but we also genuinely enjoy working together.
  • Collaboration is the norm — our team supports one another and shares knowledge openly.
  • We build meaningful relationships both with our members and within our team.
  • We are responsive and reliable, aiming to respond to member inquiries by the end of the business day.
  • Claims Managers are expected to be available during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.), unless other arrangements are made.

How to Apply

  • Interested and qualified candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to hr@vigilant.org. The cover letter should explain why your skills, experience, and aptitudes make you a good match for this job. Resumes without a cover letter will not be considered.
