Healthcare masking to end April 3, 2023, in CA, OR, and WA

Wearing a mask in healthcare settings will no longer be required in California, Oregon, or Washington as of April 3, 2023. The announcements from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and the Washington Department of Health (DOH) all say that masks are still recommended, and healthcare providers are free to require masks if they wish, but they will no longer be mandated by the state.

In addition, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the end of the state’s COVID-19 emergency, effective February 28, 2023. We previously reported that Washington’s COVID-19 emergency ended on October 31, 2022, although some obligations remain in place. Oregon’s COVID-19 emergency ended on April 1, 2022.

Tips: We will be updating our Legal Guides, At a Glance: COVID-19 Compliance in California, Oregon, and Washington, in light of these changes. Contact your Vigilant Law Group employment attorney if you have any questions.
