Enjoying the fall season in the Northwest can be a delightful experience—stunning foliage, crisp air, and various seasonal activities. It’s the perfect time of year to not only check-in on our cozy attire and engage in fun festivities but also consider how the seasonal transition affects workplace conditions so you can proactively prevent workplace injuries.
We’ve put together a check-list for doing just that!
WORKPLACE SAFETY & WORKERS' COMP READINESS
-
Safety Training Refresh
Fall’s changing weather can introduce new workplace hazards. Now is a good time to conduct safety training on the seasonal risks related to wet surfaces, or leaf-covered walkways and reduced visibility from rain.
-
Outdoor Worksite Inspection
If your worksite involves outdoor activities be sure to inspect walkways for debris and other hazards. Double-check that signage is properly secured, grounded and visible.
-
Outdoor Lighting
As the days shorten, the daylight hours decrease as well. Be sure to check all outdoor lighting to ensure walkways, parking lots and other outdoor worksite areas are illuminated as needed.
-
Footwear and Clothing
Remind employees to wear appropriate footwear that offers good traction and support, especially for outdoor work. Encourage layering of clothing to stay warm and dry.
-
Emergency Preparedness
With the unpredictable Northwest weather, it’s important to review emergency evacuation plans. Ensure employees know how to respond to a variety of situations that may be impacted by weather.
EMBRACE THE SPIRIT OF FALL AND JUST ENJOY
Practice some of these same safety tips as you partake in a scenic escape full of beautiful fall foliage or an outdoor adventure including a hike, football game or bike ride in the cooler weather. Enjoy the season by trying a new warm drink. And of course, visit a local pumpkin patch or farm for seasonal treats, and getting in the fall spirit. Have fun, stay warm and be safe!
