New app calculates heat index and illness risks for outdoor workers
Safety and Health
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have created a “Heat Safety Tool” app for Android and iPhone to help workers and supervisors calculate the heat index for their worksites and determine risk levels for outdoor workers. The app also includes information about the signs and symptoms of heat illness, and steps companies can take to prevent heat illness. As we have previously reported, employers should have plans to prevent heat illness. This new app, which you can read more about and download here, could be part of that plan. If you have any questions about heat illness prevention, contact your Vigilant safety professional.
