CALIFORNIA: Cal/OSHA to revise proposal on masks and vaccines

COVID-19Safety and Health

According to news reports, the California Occupational Safety & Health Standards Board (OSHSB) will delay consideration of revisions to Cal/OSHA's COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standards (ETS) for non-health care workplaces until Cal/OSHA has an opportunity to consider the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)'s relaxed mask guidance for fully vaccinated workers. The OSHSB was scheduled to consider Cal/OSHA's proposed changes to the ETS today, May 20, 2021. The new plan is that Cal/OSHA will revise its proposal related to fully vaccinated individuals. The OSHSB hopes to post the language for public comment by May 28, 2021, on its web page for COVID-19 prevention, and hold an emergency session to vote on the proposal on June 3, 2021. This schedule should allow the new ETS language to be in place by June 15, 2021, which is the date that existing mask mandates for the general public will be relaxed, according to an announcement by the California Health & Human Services Agency (CHHS) on May 17, 2021. We'll report on the final rules when they're released.
